My First Tiered Cake

It’s spring break. My parents are in Florida. Ryan is working. It’s just me here for most of the day. That’s a lot of hours to fill. I am NOT the kind that goes crazy alone with nothing to do. I quite thrive on alone time and a blank schedule.

These past few days, I’ve been watching baking shows. This one in particular had a wedding cake competition. It got me thinking….maybe I could make my own wedding cake….

So I started watching videos and reading blogs and really just tried to soak up the most information I could on tiered cake making.

I decided on making a 2 tiered cake. The bottom tier being lemon blueberry, the top tier being pistachio. I used 3 8 inch round pans for the bottom, and 2 6 inch round pans for the top.

Inside the vanilla bean pistachio cake!

I made so. Much. Buttercream. So much. And I used it ALL!

I am NOT artistic. So this is what made me nervous. I am confident in my baking abilities, just not confident on the part of decorating.

So elegant!

But I somehow managed to pipe all these little pretty swirly flower things (whatever you want to call them) all over the cake. I am quite proud of how it turned out.

And in other great news – it was pretty on the inside too! It also tasted AMAZING!!!!

This one is a MESS from all the cutting we done to it, but it was my favorite flavor!

So I tried something new. I prepared myself for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of it. It was a nice boost of confidence for the week. 😉

I’m going to keep practicing and making more tiered cakes, with different flavors, to see what one we like best. I have 9 months to get this right, so wish me luck!

So try something new! It just might turn into your new thing.

With love, from me, to you.
